Kanto Region Gyms
In order to compete in the League Championship, trainers must obtain 8 badges and present them as proof of entry. There are 8 gyms in the Kanto region which can be challenged for badges. Gyms from ANY region are acceptable.

Pewter Gym
Leader - Brock
Badge - Boulder Badge
This gym specializes in rock type Pokémon, though ground types are also accepted. The main battlefield is designed to mimic a mountain landscape, covered in gravel and rocks.

Cerulean Gym
Leader - Misty
Badge - Cascade Badge
This gym specializes in water type Pokémon, though ice types are also accepted. The main battlefield is a large pool with rock ledges. Although Misty is officially listed as the Gym Leader, the four sisters of Cerulean will sometimes trade out, so trainers aiming for this badge will commonly be facing one of Misty's three older sisters instead.

Vermillion Gym
Leader - Lt. Surge
Badge - Thunder Badge
This gym specializes in electric type Pokémon. The main battlefield is a plain, sand-covered court, no different from the minor battlefields.

Celadon Gym
Leader - Erika
Badge - Rainbow Badge
This gym specializes in grass type Pokémon. It's also unique in that it is a women's only gym. It's designed something like a greenhouse, with trees and plants of various kinds growing everywhere. The main battlefield is a grassland surrounded by trees and bushes.

Fuschia Gym
Leader - Koga
Badge - Soul Badge
This gym specializes in poison type Pokémon, though many members use psychic types instead. It also doubles as a ninjutsu dojo and all of its members are ninja students with the Gym Leader as their ninja master. The gym is full of invisible walls and booby traps to prevent trainers from even reaching the Gym Leader to challenge him. The main battlefield is a typical dojo style room with a hardwood floor.

Saffron Gym
Leader - Sabrina
Badge - Marsh Badge
This gym specializes in psychic type Pokémon, though ghost type trainers are also accepted. The hardest part of challenging Saffron Gym is finding Sabrina. She's had the gym filled with a maze of closed-off rooms and teleporters and trainers must make their way through her maze in order to challenge her. The main battlefield is a plain court, but the surrounding room is lit by dim torchlight and lends the place a creepy atmosphere.

Cinnabar Gym
Leader - Blaine
Badge - Volcano Badge
This gym specializes in fire type Pokémon. The gym itself is located inside the inactive volcano on Cinnabar Island. This practice has gathered some controversy, but so far nobody has been injured because of it.

Viridian Gym
Leader - Giovanni
Badge - Earth Badge
This gym specializes in ground type Pokémon, though rock, poison, and fighting types are also frequent. It is rarely open to challengers and most trainers opt to skip it in favour of a Johto badge to round out their collection of 8.

Oreburgh Gym
Leader - Roark
Badge - Coal Badge
This gym specializes in rock-type Pokémon. The gym itself is a narrow stone building, and can be rather oppressive in feel; some have likened the atmosphere to being buried underground. The battlefield at the far end of the building is one made out of soil and rock; Pokémon can freely dig their way through the pit, although are warned to beware of the rather hard stalagmites that litter the field.

Eterna Gym
Leader - Gardenia
Badge - Forest Badge
This gym specializes in grass-type Pokémon. The gym consists of a very large greenhouse, which holds an indoor forest maze. Trainers must first make it past these twisting paths before challenging the leader on a battlefield covered with green, growing things and trees.

Hearthome Gym
Leader - Fantina
Badge - Relic Badge
This gym specializes in ghost-type Pokémon. The trainers of the gym keep it very dimly lit, the only illumination coming from Duskull-shaped lanterns. Between the darkness and the mathematical puzzles that must be solved to advance to the top floor of the gym, many trainers wind up quite intimidated before they even face the spooky Pokémon of the gym leader.

Pastoria Gym
Leader - Crasher Wake
Badge - Fen Badge
This gym specializes in water-type Pokémon. To reach the gym leader, one must navigate their way through a maze of water and switches - floating platforms will lead to the battlefield, but only if the water level in the gym reaches a certain point. The battlefield itself, like most water-type fields, is a giant swimming pool with a few platforms interspersed here and there.

Veilstone Gym
Leader - Maylene
Badge - Cobble Badge
This gym specializes in fighting-type Pokémon. The gym is built much like a boxer's training area - there are a number of small boxing rings spread throughout, with punching bags and other sparring equipment littering the area. The arena is a simple dojo-like battle court.

Canalave Gym
Leader - Byron
Badge - Mine Badge
This gym specializes in steel-type Pokémon. The gym's leader awaits on the top floor of a four-storey building that requires something of an innate sense of timing to scale - the floors are all linked by steel platforms, manual lifts, and moving platforms. The arena is a simple clay court, reinforced with many steel girders; those iron-hard Pokémon can be hazardous to the building!

Snowpoint Gym
Leader - Candice
Badge - Icicle Badge
This gym specializes in ice-type Pokémon. The interior of the gym is set up like a number of ice rinks, all linked together by slippery slides - better have some grace about you, trainer! The battle arena, too, is fashioned out of a solid block of ice, nicely groomed before every match; it's said the gym trainers can sometimes be found training their Pokémon on it in impromptu hockey matches.

Sunyshore Gym
Leader - Volkner
Badge - Beacon Badge
This gym specializes in electric-type Pokémon. The gym is part of the reason why Sunyshore has its large solar-energy-collecting panels - it's home to a number of exposed dynamos that take up quite a bit of power. Trainers must navigate through these passageways, negotiating with the clockwork, gear-laden paths. The battlefield is of the normal arena variety... Except for the electric fence surrounding it. Ouch.

Violet Gym
Leader - Falkner
Badge - Zephyr Badge
This gym specializes in flying-type Pokémon. It is located on the top of a skyscraper in the middle of the city; the battlefield has no roof, so as to allow Flying-types their freedom to the sky.

Azalea Gym
Leader - Bugsy
Badge - Hive Badge
This gym specializes in bug-type Pokémon. The gym itself is located in a terradome-like structure on the outskirts of town, with a forest-like interior for the gym's buggy types to thrive in. The center of the forest holds a small battlefield, for the use of challenging trainers.

Goldenrod Gym
Leader - Shannon Vincent Gray (PC)
Badge - Plain Badge
This gym specializes in normal-type Pokémon. There isn't really much that's special about this gym - there's a small maze in the shape of a Cleffa that trainers must navigate through, but the battlefield itself is a simple arena-type one.

Ecruteak Gym
Leader - Morty
Badge - Fog Badge
This gym specializes in ghost-type Pokémon. From the outside, this gym looks more like a temple than anything else - but on the inside, it's a winding maze of invisible glass floors towards the battlefield. Trainer beware!

Olivine Gym
Leader - Jasmine
Badge - Mineral Badge
This gym specializes in steel-type Pokémon. This gym is rather set up like a metallic pyramid, with a simple dirt battlefield lying in wait on the bottom floor. Those Pokémon versed in earth-attacks would probably feel right at home.

Cianwood Gym
Leader - Chuck
Badge - Storm Badge
This gym specializes in fighting-type Pokémon. This is another gym fashioned much like a dojo; the trainers here are constantly improving both the skills of their Pokémon as well as themselves.

Mahogany Gym
Leader - Pryce
Badge - Glacier Badge
This gym specializes in ice-type Pokémon. A slippery ice-maze blocks the way leading to the central battlefield - a large arena court covered in ice, but for a central pool of water. There's something of a chill over the entire building... Bundle up before you come in.

Blackthorn Gym
Leader - Clair
Badge - Rising Badge
This gym specializes in dragon-type Pokémon. The Blackthorn Gym resides inside an old Victorian-style villa, a peaceful-looking place, somewhat at odds with the ferocity of the battles that rage within it. The roof of the gym is retractable, allowing dragon-types and other flying Pokémon to take to the air.
